Should you buy solid wood furniture?
Solid wood furniture is a term that is used to differentiate itself from Engineered Wood.
Solid Wood:
Natural wood obtained from the forests, having a consistent composition of material throughout its body without hollow gaps. Strong, durable, and resistant.
Engineed Wood:
Loose strands of wood chips and fibres put together by adhesives to form a composite material in the form of a plank. Has hollow gaps throughout its body. Damaged easily through heavy bearing and exposure to water (causes adhesives and wood chips to debond).
It is also worth noting that engineered wood is usually cladded with printed laminate, which will never match the aesthetics and beauty of natural wood.

How to know if your solid wood can last a lifetime
After the solid woods have been obtained from the forests, they have to be carefully processed by wood processing plants. This heavily decides whether or not your investment in a set of solid wood furniture will be wasted.
Wood processing and cutting
Solid woods are kiln-dried in a very slow process to ensure the content of moisture drops to a single digit percent. Typically, factories drop it to as low as 6 percent, before sawing them (following a cut list from the designer) into desired shapes to put together to form a set of furniture.
The way in which it is cut may also affect the structural integrity of the finished piece of furniture.
Type of wood
Lastly, the type of wood can also determine if your furniture will be long lasting. South American Oak, South American Walnut, North American Walnut, Babul Acacia, and Rubber Wood, all possess characteristics that suggests they are suitable and durable enough for use as furniture.
How to tell what is lousy
